History

St. Francis of Assisi Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) was started as a result of our working with people detoxing from drugs and alcohol. While working with this population, we saw that many of them had been in prison. Believing that Christ offers the ultimate answer to life, we wanted to work with this population in a Christ centered way.

In what we believe was the hand of God at work, we learned of Prison Congregations of America. Its ministry is to start churches in prisons. We contacted the director of PCA, she helped guide us in the founding of St. Francis of Assisi Christian at the Timpanogos Correctional Facility for women at the Utah State Prison, Draper, Utah. Shortly thereafter, the Central Rocky Mountain Region of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) recognized SFACC as one of its congregations. Currently, SFACC is served by the Rev. Charles Hines, an ordained minister, with standing in the Central Rocky Mountain Region of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
